The Clash at Bonds Casino NYC, 1981 - Retro Planet

Blue Oyster Cult - Bonds International Casino, NY (1981) B.O.C. are back but not exactly with something new here. This show was first shared here by Titus about five years ago, with the title The Thing! 1981, the exact date seems to be June 16th and they played at The Bonds International Casino NY under the name Soft White Underbelly. The venue became the Bond’s International Casino, a nod to the International Casino, a 1930s-era nightclub that existed on the site. Bond’s was a short-lived disco and rock venue that featured dancing and live acts, most famously the Clash. The Clash played 17 shows in 15 nights there in 1981 (opening acts: Grandmaster Flash and the Dead Kennedys, among others). This made the news because The Clash played a series of 17 concerts at Bonds International Casino in New York City in May and June 1981 in support of their album Sandinista!. The site of the concerts was formerly Bonds department store which had been converted into a large second-floor hall. Promoters kept the name because there was a large Bonds sign on the outside of the building. But the space it occupies has a fascinating lineage, and as for those fifteen days, well…can any other nightclub in New York claim to have started what is called the ‘Times Square Riot of 1981‘?
